Next week marks an exciting return of womenโs professional tennis to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, featuring the most substantial prize pool ever offered at the WTA 125 level.
The prestigious Hall of Fame Open will host both menโs and womenโs tournaments, offering $200,000 prize money for both the womenโs event and the ATP Challenger competition.
Although the ATP Tour consistently held post-Wimbledon events at the Hallโs grass courts, the womenโs tour has been absent from this venue since the 1990s. This year, the womenโs tournament is returning with matched prize money, thanks to a collaboration with the MARGARET Fund. This organization aims to promote education and ensure adherence to Title IX, which supports gender equity. This partnership enabled a significant 60% increase in the prize purse for the womenโs tournament, aligning it with the menโs.
Kicking off with qualifying matches, the Hall of Fame Open is set to commence this Sunday and extend through July 13.
