MEXICO CITY — Hurricane Flossie has downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane as it travels off Mexico’s southwestern Pacific coast. Currently, it has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kph), according to updates from the National Hurricane Center.

Although Flossie is projected to remain offshore and dissipate by Thursday, meteorologists warn of significant swells along with “life-threatening” surf and rip currents impacting the southwestern coast of Mexico and the Baja California peninsula in the upcoming days.

The hurricane, which is based out of Miami, was positioned approximately 215 miles (345 kilometers) south of Cabo San Lucas and is progressing northwest at a speed of 8 mph (13 kph). During this movement, it may remain close to the coast for a few days, bringing rain to multiple Mexican states.

Flossie initially strengthened into a formidable Category 3 hurricane late Tuesday but has since lost intensity throughout Wednesday and is expected to weaken further as it continues.

Stay informed as Flossie progresses, monitoring for potential impacts on affected regions in Mexico and surrounding areas.
