MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Jaren Jackson Jr., a standout player for the Memphis Grizzlies, is slated to undergo surgery following a turf toe injury to his right foot. The mishap occurred during offseason basketball sessions, as announced by the team on Tuesday.

The Grizzlies expressed optimism regarding Jackson’s full recovery, though specifics on his recovery timeline will only become clear post-surgery. Jackson, who is 25 years old, was selected in the first round of the 2018 NBA draft. Last season, he earned his second All-Star designation. Over that period, he averaged 22.2 points and pulled down 5.6 rebounds per game. Additionally, Jackson was awarded the title of the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year for the 2022-23 season, having topped the league with an average of three blocks per game.

This offseason, Jackson is eligible for a contract extension, a move the Grizzlies are considering as they aim to fortify their team around Jackson and their star point guard Ja Morant. In their recent playoff run, Memphis was eliminated in the first round, swept by the Oklahoma City team, who ultimately claimed the championship in April.
