MIAMI — The Miami Marlins bolstered their roster on Tuesday by bringing back outfielder Derek Hill. Hill, who had been sidelined for five weeks due to a sprained left wrist, was reactivated from the 10-day injured list. This injury occurred following a spectacular diving catch during the Marlins’ 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on May 25.
Making his return to the field during Miami’s 2-0 triumph over the visiting Minnesota team on Tuesday night, Hill appeared as a defensive substitute in the ninth inning, handling duties in center field. Over the course of the season thus far, Hill has maintained a batting average of .233 and has hit two home runs across 24 games.
Simultaneously, the Marlins made several other roster adjustments. The team successfully acquired right-handed pitcher Nick Nastrini off waivers from the Chicago White Sox and promptly assigned him to their Triple-A affiliate in Jacksonville. Nastrini, who had a challenging start to his rookie season with the White Sox last year, posted an 0-7 record and a 7.07 ERA in eight starts. This season, while pitching for Triple-A Charlotte, he has achieved a slightly improved record of 1-1 with an ERA of 7.51 in 20 appearances, six of which have been as a starter.
Additionally, the Marlins optioned infielder Jack Winkler to Jacksonville in an effort to streamline their roster. They also moved right-hander Max Meyer, recovering from hip surgery, to the 60-day injured list to allow him more time to recuperate from his procedure.
With these adjustments, the Marlins are looking to optimize their lineup as they continue through the season, hoping that the blend of returning talent and new acquisitions will enhance their performance on the field.
