PHOENIX — Trey Mancini, a seasoned first baseman, recently chose to opt out of his minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, leading to the team releasing him from their roster. This decision opens up the possibility for Mancini, now 33, to pursue opportunities with other major league teams in need of talent.

During his time with Triple-A Reno, Mancini delivered an impressive performance, achieving a .308 batting average alongside 16 home runs and 62 RBIs. His track record showcases his capability as a power hitter, as he has accumulated 129 home runs over a seven-year MLB career, which includes stints with the Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros, and Chicago Cubs. Notably, 2019 saw Mancini reach a remarkable personal peak, hitting 35 home runs while playing for the Orioles.

Mancini’s career narrative also includes a significant personal challenge. He missed the entire 2020 season due to recovering from surgery for a malignant tumor removal from his colon. Demonstrating resilience, he made a comeback in 2021 with 21 homers. His journey continued as he was traded to the Houston Astros during the 2022 season and contributed to their World Series victory.

The last occasion that Mancini graced a major league field was with the Chicago Cubs in 2023, during which he achieved a .234 batting average accompanied by four home runs over 79 games. Previously, he penned a minor league agreement with the Miami Marlins last season but was released shortly before the culmination of spring training.
