BOSTON — On Monday, the Boston Red Sox welcomed back right-handed relief pitcher Jordan Hicks from the 15-day injured list, marking the first reinforcement from the trade involving Rafael Devers.
In a corresponding move, the team sent pitcher Zack Kelly down to Triple-A Worcester. Kelly experienced some right oblique tightness during Sunday’s 5-3 defeat against Toronto, yet, prior to the match on Monday against Cincinnati, manager Alex Cora reassured he was in good condition.
Hicks, aged 28, was acquired from the San Francisco Giants as part of a deal that also involved pitcher Kyle Harrison and two additional prospects in exchange for Devers on June 15. Hicks had been sidelined due to toe inflammation at the time of the trade but has since made two rehabilitation appearances with Triple-A Worcester.
Additionally, on the same day, the Red Sox reinstated infielder Marcelo Mayer from the bereavement list while optioning Nick Sogard back to Worcester.
