ATLANTA — Phillies’ star first baseman Bryce Harper took an important step toward his return by facing live pitching at Truist Park as he recuperates from an injury to his right wrist.
Harper, who has been sidelined since being placed on the 10-day injured list on June 6, joined his teammates in Atlanta. Prior to the Phillies’ matchup against the Braves on Saturday night, he engaged in a workout session.
“He was great,” commented Philadelphia’s manager, Rob Thomson. “It looked like his bat speed and timing were both on point.”
However, Thomson indicated that Harper would not take part in on-field activities come Sunday. “We’ll assess how he feels tomorrow and determine our next steps,” he explained.
This game marked the 21st consecutive absence for Harper due to his injury. During this period, the Phillies have posted an 11-9 record. In the 57 games Harper played this season, he has achieved a .258 batting average, coupled with nine home runs.
If all goes well, Harper might rejoin the Phillies’ lineup next week when they face off against the Padres and the Reds across two three-game series.
