CARROLLTON, Texas — Patrick Reed surged ahead with a 4-under 68 on Saturday, securing a three-stroke advantage in hopes of capturing his first win on the LIV Golf tour, backed by Saudi funding.
Reed, who shared the lead with fellow 4Aces member Harold Varner III after both opened with a 67, racked up six birdies and two bogeys, totaling 9-under 135 at Maridoe Golf Club. The 34-year-old is known for his 2018 Masters triumph and his nine victories on the PGA Tour.
Paul Casey, who shot a 67, and Abraham Ancer, with a 69, are currently tied for second place. Meanwhile, Varner slipped to a tie for third at 5 under after shooting a 72. Joining him are Tyrrell Hatton, who carded a 65, and both Richard Bland and David Puig with 69 each.
Bryson DeChambeau, a local resident with ties to SMU where he honed his collegiate golf skills, posted his second consecutive round of 72.
In the team standings, the 4Aces have established a four-stroke lead.
