His contributions continued during the playoffs, where he delivered an average of 15 points over the course of four games. Demonstrating a strong affinity for the team, Mitchell had expressed his interest in returning, content with the fit he found within the team. Though Mitchell was eligible to explore restricted free agency this offseason, he opted to remain with the Heat.
“Joining this team felt seamless,” Mitchell remarked at the closing of the Heat’s season. “They needed a player to provide defensive strength and support in facilitating opportunities for teammates. I believe I accomplished that.”
Miami marks the third team Mitchell has been a part of in his NBA career, following previous stints with the Sacramento Kings and the Toronto Raptors. As the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Mitchell has accumulated averages of 7.6 points and 3.3 assists over the course of 301 regular-season games throughout four seasons.
