LONDON – Owen Farrell, a former captain of the England rugby team, is making his way back to Saracens following a less than stellar stint in French rugby with Racing 92.

Farrell had previously departed from Saracens after concluding the 2023-24 season, ending his long-lasting, 16-year affiliation with the club. His move to Paris was made during a break from his commitments with the England national team, which was aimed at focusing on his mental health.

Due to his playing outside of England, Farrell became ineligible for selection to the national team. As a result, he hasn’t participated in test rugby since the World Cup in 2023 and was notably absent from the British & Irish Lions squad touring Australia, a team directed by his father, Andy Farrell.

Following a season with Racing that was marred by injuries, Farrell expressed his enthusiasm about returning to Saracens, saying the chance to return felt like coming “home” and fills him with great excitement.

At 33, Farrell has agreed to a two-year contract with Saracens. Mark McCall, the director of rugby, expressed his delight regarding Farrell’s return, stating, “Owen has Saracens in his DNA. His competitive spirit is woven into the fabric of this club and we are delighted he has chosen to come home.”
