HONG KONG — An Air India flight had to turn back to Hong Kong shortly after it departed on Monday due to a technical problem encountered during the flight. This incident came shortly after a tragic crash involving another Air India flight led to a devastating loss of life, with at least 270 reported fatalities.
According to Air India, the flight was headed to New Delhi when it experienced the midair issue, prompting it to return to Hong Kong for safety reasons. The airline emphasized that it was taking “a matter of abundant precaution” as the aircraft underwent necessary inspections. The Hong Kong Airport Authority confirmed that the flight, designated as AI315, returned and landed safely at the city’s airport at about 1 p.m.
The aircraft in question was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, similar to the one involved in the recent disaster. That earlier flight was bound for London but tragically crashed shortly after takeoff. It struck a medical college hostel situated in a residential area in Ahmedabad, a city in northwestern India. This crash resulted in the loss of 241 passengers aboard and claimed the lives of at least 29 individuals on the ground, although there was a single survivor.
In response to this latest incident, Air India has taken proactive measures to ensure that affected passengers are able to continue their journey to their intended destination with minimal delay. The airline assured the public that alternative flight arrangements are being made to accommodate the passengers as soon as possible.
