MILWAUKEE — In an exciting game on Saturday, the St. Louis Cardinals broke their six-game losing streak by defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 8-5. Nolan Gorman delivered a critical three-run homer, while Willson Contreras added a solo home run in the ninth inning.
Interestingly, Willson’s brother, William Contreras, also managed a homer for Milwaukee, concluding the day’s scoring activity with a shot in the ninth inning. The Cardinals’ Victor Scott contributed significantly to the victory with two RBIs.
Gorman’s decisive homer came in the fifth inning, successfully chasing Brewers’ starter José Quintana from the mound and stretching the Cardinals’ lead to 7-1. The game began promisingly for the Cardinals as Masyn Winn hit a single, followed by Iván Herrera’s walk and Alec Burleson’s single that brought home Winn to secure an early lead.
Milwaukee attempted to rally in the fourth with a triple by Jackson Chourio, who then scored on a passed ball. Sal Frelick added a two-run double in the fifth, complemented by Chourio’s RBI single, narrowing the gap to 7-4.
A pivotal moment for St. Louis in the fourth inning saw Nolan Arenado start with a single, moving to second when Gorman walked. Arenado then advanced to third on a fielder’s choice by Jordan Walker, which loaded the bases due to a throwing error by third baseman Caleb Durbin. Victor Scott further extended the Cards’ advantage with a two-run single, pushing the lead to 4-0.
A notable achievement for the Cardinals was that every player who made a plate appearance recorded at least one hit, demonstrating a well-rounded team performance.
Looking ahead, the series will conclude on Sunday with Miles Mikolas (4-3, 4.48 ERA) set to take the mound for St. Louis, facing off against Milwaukee’s Quinn Priester (4-2, 3.65 ERA).
