JACKSON, Miss. — The current Republican commissioner of agriculture and commerce in Mississippi has declared his intentions to run for governor in the upcoming 2027 elections.
In revealing his plans to join the gubernatorial race, Andy Gipson proclaimed his commitment to upholding conservative values. He expressed his readiness to continue supporting what he termed as “President Donald J. Trump’s agenda,” underscoring his enduring alliance with the former President.
Identifying as a “proven fiscal conservative,” Gipson pledged to champion the interests of Mississippi’s agricultural community, which includes farmers, ranchers, loggers, and landowners. He emphasized his readiness to oppose what he characterized as “radical left-wing regulations” that could impact these groups.
Gipson’s career background is multifaceted; he is an attorney and also serves as a Baptist pastor. Previously, he was a state representative before being appointed by then-Governor Phil Bryant as Mississippi’s agriculture commissioner in 2018.
