In Rust, Germany, the national women’s soccer team is preparing for the Euro 2025 tournament, maintaining a core group of players from their previous competition. The team has retained 11 members from the squad that advanced to the Women’s European Championship final in 2022, under the guidance of coach Christian Wück. Heading the team is Giulia Gwinn from Bayern Munich, who was part of the lineup that reached the final but fell to England.

Notably absent from the current 23-player roster are Felicitas Rauch from North Carolina Courage and Nicole Anyomi of Eintracht Frankfurt. Both players have been vocal in their criticism of coach Wück, accusing him of insufficient communication regarding his selection decisions. Rauch is, however, listed among 12 players on the reserve list.

A new promising talent, Cora Zicai, is set to join the 2025 squad. At just 20 years old, Zicai has already made a significant impact on the national team, with two goals in her first three appearances.

Germany’s journey in the Euro 2025 will commence in Switzerland, with matchups against Poland on July 4, Denmark on July 8, and Sweden on July 12. Despite a disappointing showing at the 2023 World Cup, where Germany experienced its worst performance by exiting in the group stage, the team bounced back to secure a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics last year.
