HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Silver Airways, a regional airline based in Hollywood, Florida, announced on Wednesday its decision to cease all operations after an unsuccessful restructuring attempt during bankruptcy proceedings. This sudden shutdown has left several passengers stranded in various locations across Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean.

In a notice posted on its website, Silver Airways advised against heading to the airport amidst this abrupt halt. The company’s assets were recently sold as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy process to a holding company, which has, unfortunately, chosen not to continue the airline’s services. This decision affects flights operated within five Florida cities and towards 11 island destinations.

For those affected, Silver Airways recommended seeking refunds through credit card issuers or via travel agencies as stated in their announcement. The fleet of the airline had already been narrowed down to only eight ATR turboprop aircraft, and the workforce significantly reduced from 608 individuals to 348, encompassing pilots, cabin crew, and ground staff. An internal email from Silver’s CEO informed employees that most of these positions would terminate.

Initially launched in 2011, Silver Airways had once extended its reach to 28 destinations. Despite these recent developments, Seaborne Airlines, a subsidiary located in Puerto Rico associated with Silver, will continue its operations throughout the Caribbean.
