NEW YORK — Major League Baseball (MLB) and Jomboy Media have announced a new strategic partnership that will see MLB acquiring a share in the media company. The agreement, revealed on Tuesday, aims to leverage Jomboy Media’s presence across MLB’s digital platforms. MLB will be working closely with Jomboy Media to expand the reach of its various shows, such as “Talkin’ Baseball,” “Talkin’ Yanks,” and “The Warehouse Games.”
A collaboration between the two will focus on the growth of intellectual property and advertising opportunities, particularly in connection to MLB’s major events, including the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby. The announcement follows a successful year for Jomboy Media, where it reportedly set new records for both revenue and profitability, with over 93 million social media engagements. The media company was founded by Jimmy “Jomboy” O’Brien and Jake Storiale in 2017, and has since grown into a significant player in baseball media.
Noah Garden, MLB’s deputy commissioner for business and media, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing Jomboy Media’s ability to engage passionately with baseball fans. “This partnership will ensure that Jomboy Media will have the resources and access to MLB intellectual property necessary to help it continue to grow,” he stated, highlighting the anticipated benefits to MLB’s online presence and fan engagement.
One of Jomboy Media’s standout productions is “The Warehouse Games,” which is inspired by traditional backyard sports and has garnered nearly 400 million total views. Jimmy O’Brien shared his appreciation for the community support that has allowed the company to transition from a hobby into a significant media entity. “When we started talking about baseball on the internet, it was just a fun hobby. Our community is the reason we’ve been able to turn this from ‘just a hobby,’ into something bigger than we ever could’ve imagined,” O’Brien commented. He emphasized that the partnership with MLB represents a monumental step for Jomboy Media, enabling them to provide even deeper storytelling to their devoted audience.
With this new partnership, both MLB and Jomboy Media aim to foster further engagement with baseball enthusiasts and enhance the digital landscape of the sport.
