NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In an unfortunate incident this past weekend, country musician Conner Smith was involved in a fatal accident in Nashville where he struck a pedestrian with his truck. Presently, there are no charges filed against him as the investigation remains ongoing, authorities have reported.
According to the Metro Nashville Police, the 24-year-old singer hit 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins on Sunday evening while she was inside a crosswalk. Dobbins, who was known as a retired attorney, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The Tennessee Bar Association shared that she was out walking her dog at the time of the incident.
Police have not observed any signs suggesting Smith was impaired during the accident. An early assessment indicates that a likely contributing factor was Smith failing to yield to a pedestrian who had the right of way.
Smith’s lawyer, Worrick Robinson, mentioned that his client is fully cooperating with the authorities in their investigation. Robinson conveyed, “His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins’ family during this incredibly difficult time.”
Dobbins made significant contributions to the legal aid and family law communities in Nashville, having been actively involved for over 40 years. Her notable achievements include playing a foundational part in establishing the city’s first domestic violence shelter and drafting Tennessee’s initial order of protection legislation, as highlighted by the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands.
Conner Smith was nominated as a new male artist of the year at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards. His debut full-length album, “Smoky Mountains,” was released in the same year. The Nashville native has produced gold-certified singles, such as “Take it Slow” and “Creek Will Rise,” under his label, Big Machine. Smith also made an appearance over the weekend at Nashville’s CMA Fest.
