NEW YORK—ABC News has placed a suspension on its correspondent Terry Moran following a controversial social media post in which he described Stephen Miller, the Trump administration’s deputy chief of staff, as a “world class hater.” The post, which Moran later removed, drew immediate backlash from Republican officials, including a response from Vice President J.D. Vance.
ABC News emphasized in a statement that it upholds the principles of objectivity and impartiality in its reporting and does not approve of personal attacks. The network, based in New York, said Moran’s suspension will continue while the situation undergoes further review.
The situation unfolded after Moran’s initial post on social media, in which he discussed President Donald Trump and likened him to a “world-class hater.” Moran elaborated that, in his view, Trump’s hatred serves as a means to achieve personal glorification. Contrastly, according to Moran, for Miller, such sentiments serve as a vital form of sustenance: “He eats his hate,” Moran posted.
Vice President Vance responded on the social media platform, claiming that Moran’s comments were “dripping with hatred” and serving as a reminder of the network’s coverage of the Trump administration. Vance’s response appeared to question the credibility of ABC’s news coverage in light of Moran’s statements.
Stephen Miller also addressed the issue, criticizing what he referred to as Moran’s “full public meltdown.” Miller suggested that Moran’s comments unveiled a broader issue within the media landscape, accusing members of the press of masquerading as impartial journalists while harboring extreme viewpoints. According to Miller, Moran’s outburst was a revelation of a deeper media bias.
