ANAHEIM, Calif. — In an exciting display of resilience, the Los Angeles Angels overcame a four-run deficit to triumph over the Seattle Mariners with an 8-6 victory on Saturday night. Jo Adell led the charge with two towering home runs, while Chris Taylor also contributed a solo homer to seal the game.

The Mariners, struggling lately with a five-game losing streak and dropping 12 out of their last 17, saw Cal Raleigh hitting two homers, boosting his tally to a major league-leading 26 homers. Although Raleigh managed to drive in four runs, it wasn’t enough to change the Mariners’ fortunes.

Angels closer Kenley Jansen placed the final stamp on the win, despite conceding a solo homer to Raleigh in the ninth inning, by securing his 14th save of the season.

Chris Taylor stepped up to replace the injured right fielder Jorge Soler, who was sidelined due to groin tightness. Taylor’s timely homer off Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo, along with Jo Adell’s 431-foot solo blast, helped trim down the Mariners’ early lead to 4-2.

The Angels capitalized on two Mariners errors in the third inning, leveling the score at 4-4. Adell then put the Angels ahead with a massive 445-foot home run to center field in the fourth inning. The lead was extended with doubles from Nolan Schanuel and Taylor Ward in the fifth, and with Zach Neto’s RBI single, the scoreboard read 6-5 by the sixth inning. Adell’s RBI single in the seventh further cemented their lead, marking a rare achievement for the Angels, scoring in six consecutive innings — a feat not accomplished since 2011.

During the clash, Seattle center fielder Julio Rodriguez, who had two singles earlier, had to leave in the third inning after a hard-hit ball by Randy Arozarena struck him on his right ankle as he attempted to steal third base.

Cole Young contributed to the Mariners’ efforts with a double and a score in the second and an RBI single in the sixth.

In a pivotal moment, Connor Brogdon relieved Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz with Mariners runners at first and third in the fourth inning. With sheer determination, Brogdon successfully struck out J.P. Crawford, offered a walk to Jorge Polanco, and induced a flyout from Leody Taveras with bases loaded to maintain the stalemate at 4-4.

Jo Adell’s recent performance has been remarkable, hitting .406 with five home runs among his 13 hits in 32 at-bats over his last 10 games, which has significantly improved his season average from .184 to .224.

Looking ahead, the Mariners have George Kirby slated to start in Sunday’s series finale against the Angels’ Tyler Anderson.
