PARIS — Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) celebrated their historic Champions League victory by showcasing it at the French Open on Monday. The star forward, Ousmane Dembélé, couldn’t hide his excitement as he displayed the trophy to the tennis enthusiasts in attendance.
Wearing fashionable sunglasses, Dembélé took to the clay of Court Philippe-Chatrier, a location known for hosting some of the world’s most outstanding tennis competitions. Raising the trophy high, he exclaimed, “Ici c’est Paris!” (This is Paris!), a chant beloved by PSG supporters. The infectious cheer was briefly echoed by some in the crowd, spreading the joy of PSG’s triumph.
Dembélé was instrumental in their resounding 5-0 win over Inter Milan on Saturday, where PSG claimed their first-ever Champions League title. He significantly contributed by assisting one of the goals scored by the promising talent, Désiré Doué.
Following Dembélé’s exit from the court, tennis icon Novak Djokovic and British player Cameron Norrie emerged for their fourth-round match at the renowned Roland-Garros.
Among the spectators was PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, who understands the game well, having been a professional player himself. Recognizing the significance of this achievement, Djokovic took a moment to acknowledge the victory after securing his own milestone. “It was an incredible season for PSG, so congratulations to all the PSG fans and my friend Nasser,” he stated after dispatching Cameron Norrie, marking his 100th win at Roland-Garros. “It was very important for the city to have PSG as a Champions League winner for the first time.”
The 51-year-old Al-Khelaïfi not only once competed on the ATP tour but also represented Qatar in the Davis Cup. He even faced off against 1995 French Open champion Thomas Muster, showcasing his deep ties to tennis as well as football.
