NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In a remarkable display on the mound, Ethan Eberle recorded 11 strikeouts, while Eddie King Jr. and Alex Alicea each contributed two RBIs, leading Louisville to a 6-0 victory over Wright State on Sunday night, securing a sweep of the Nashville Regional.
This triumph propels Louisville into the super regionals for the 10th time in its program’s history. The Cardinals have had an impressive record of advancing, particularly from 2013 through 2017, making it there five consecutive times. However, they had been absent from postseason play three out of the last four seasons, including missing out in the past two years.
Eberle’s performance was commanding, allowing just two hits and issuing three walks over 6 1/3 scoreless innings, improving his record to 6-2. Wyatt Danilowicz came in as relief, striking out four over 2 2/3 no-hit innings, securing his third save of the season.
Offensively, the Cardinals established their presence early. Lucas Moore led off with a single, advancing to third on Matt Klein’s double. Zion Rose’s walk loaded the bases, setting the stage for King’s double, which drove in two runs and gave Louisville an initial 2-0 lead.
The scoring continued with Klein delivering an RBI single in the fifth inning, followed by Neighbors’ run-scoring double in the sixth. Alicea sealed the victory with a two-run single in the eighth inning.
Wright State had previously surprised many by defeating the top-seeded Vanderbilt 5-4 in a must-win game earlier in the day. Meanwhile, Louisville had pushed Vanderbilt into the elimination bracket with a narrow 3-2 win on Saturday.
