LOS ANGELES — In a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez suffered an injury to his left thumb on a stolen base during the Yankees’ 7-3 triumph. New York also faced a setback as closer Luke Weaver was unable to pitch because of a sore hamstring.
The incident occurred when Domínguez executed a headfirst slide into second base during the fifth inning after drawing a walk. Although he managed to come around and score on a single by DJ LeMahieu, he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the sixth inning due to his inability to swing comfortably.
Manager Aaron Boone reported that the injury was significant enough to necessitate Domínguez’s removal from the game. The 22-year-old rookie is scheduled for further examination in New York to assess the severity of the thumb injury.
Anticipating an appearance from Weaver in the ninth inning, Boone’s plans shifted unexpectedly. Weaver experienced discomfort in his hamstring during warm-ups, which prompted a quick adjustment in strategy. Boone mentioned that the situation required an impromptu change and expressed hope that the injury would not be serious.
Tim Hill efficiently closed the game by retiring the Dodgers in order during the ninth inning, helping the Yankees avoid their first series sweep of the season.
