In Corvallis, Oregon, Oregon State University saw powerful performances by Wilson Weber, Trent Caraway, and Tyce Peterson, each hitting home runs to fuel a commanding victory over Saint Mary’s in the Corvallis Regional. This decisive 20-3 win on Sunday ensured Oregon State, the No. 8 overall seed, continued their journey in the tournament, avoiding elimination.

The Beavers, boasting a record of 43-13-1, are now tasked with overcoming the No. 3 seed USC twice—once later on Sunday and again on Monday—to secure a spot in the super regionals. Meanwhile, the Trojans, standing at 37-21, need only a single victory to advance.

Ethan Kleinschmit excelled as the starting pitcher for Oregon State, recording a performance that included allowing just two runs on five hits and three walks over 7 2/3 innings. Throwing a total of 114 pitches, Kleinschmit improved his personal record to 8-3. Reliever Joey Mundt secured the game’s last four outs.

The Beavers began their offensive surge with a 1-0 lead in the second inning despite not recording a hit against Saint Mary’s starter Lukas Sarantos, who holds a 3-1 record. Caraway initiated the scoring after earning a walk, advancing on a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch, and then crossing home plate on Canon Reeder’s sacrifice fly.

Continuing to build momentum, Oregon State added two unearned runs in the third inning before Peterson and Caraway extended the lead by hitting solo home runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, pushing the score to 5-0.

Saint Mary’s attempted a comeback in the fifth inning, narrowing the deficit to 5-2 with RBI singles from Eddie Madrigal and Cody Kashimoto. However, Oregon State swiftly responded with a remarkable nine-run burst in the sixth inning, virtually sealing their victory.

Sarantos conceded three runs, with only one earned, over 2 1/3 innings. Subsequent pitchers Tai Gardini and Noah Waldeck surrendered solo home runs to Peterson and Caraway, respectively. Weber closed out the scoring with a homer off Elliott Joslin during a six-run outpouring in the ninth.

Oregon State’s continuous NCAA Tournament appearances now span eight consecutive years and 32 in total, with the program celebrating seven College World Series appearances, the latest being their 2018 championship win. Historically, they achieved consecutive titles in 2006 and 2007.

In contrast, Saint Mary’s, which holds a 36-26 record, marks its only prior tournament participation in 2016.
