LOS ANGELES โ€” The New York Yankees have welcomed Carlos Carrasco back to their roster. The 38-year-old right-handed pitcher was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of the teamโ€™s final game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Earlier in the season, Carrasco filled in as a starter and reliever for New York due to injuries plaguing the pitching staff. Between March 29 and May 4, he made six starts and appeared in two relief roles, recording a 2-2 record with a 5.91 ERA. After those appearances, Carrasco was designated for assignment.

Despite clearing waivers, Carrasco decided to stay within the Yankees organization, accepting a demotion to the minor leagues. The Yankees found themselves in urgent need of pitching reinforcements after a crushing 18-2 loss on Saturday. That game saw six of the teamโ€™s eight relievers used, leaving them heavily depleted for the following day. Relief pitchers Brent Headrick and Yerry De Los Santos pitched consecutively, rendering them unavailable for Sundayโ€™s matchup. Even position player Pablo Reyes took the mound in the eighth inning.

To clear space for Carrasco on the major league roster, the Yankees opted to send De Los Santos back to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The move aims to bolster the teamโ€™s endurance on the mound as they seek to bounce back in their series against the Dodgers.
