TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays have placed outfielder Daulton Varsho on the 10-day injured list due to a strained left hamstring. This announcement comes a day after the Gold Glove winner from 2024 exited a game against the Oakland Athletics due to a leg injury sustained while running the bases. The injury happened during the third inning of Saturday’s thrilling 8-7 victory. Varsho felt discomfort in his leg rounding second base on a base hit off the wall. Visibly in pain, he clutched the back of his thigh, briefly hopped on one leg before collapsing near third base, where he was tagged out by Max Schuemann.
Alongside this roster change, the Blue Jays have activated right-handed pitcher Erik Swanson from the 60-day injured list and have recalled versatile player Davis Schneider from their Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo. As part of these roster moves, left-handed pitcher Easton Lucas has been optioned to Triple-A.
Varsho, who had already missed part of the early season following offseason shoulder surgery, has appeared in 24 games this season with a batting average of .207, hitting eight home runs and driving in 20 runs. With Varsho sidelined, Myles Straw, who stepped in during Saturday’s game, is expected to start in center field for Sunday’s series finale.
Meanwhile, Erik Swanson has been sidelined all season due to median nerve entrapment. Last year, the seasoned pitcher compiled a 2-2 record and a 5.03 ERA over 45 appearances with Toronto. Davis Schneider, who struggled earlier this season batting .067 with no home runs and one RBI across 10 games, now has an opportunity to prove himself once more with the big league club.
