PHILADELPHIA — The Milwaukee Brewers have decided to designate left-handed pitcher Tyler Alexander for assignment. This decision came before their Sunday match against the Philadelphia Phillies, allowing them to make room on the roster for the return of left-hander José Quintana. Quintana has been reactivated from the injured list after recovering from an issue with his left shoulder.
Thirty-year-old Alexander has had a challenging season, accumulating a 3-5 record with a 6.19 ERA throughout 21 appearances, which includes four games he started. Over the course of 36 1/3 innings, Alexander managed to strike out 30 batters. Notably, his performance in May was tough, as he recorded a 9.24 ERA. During a 17-7 win against the Phillies on Saturday, he allowed five runs in the ninth inning. Earlier, in an 8-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on May 21, he gave up four runs, with three being earned, in the 11th inning.
Throughout his career in the major leagues, Alexander’s statistics include a 20-33 record with a 4.67 ERA across 164 appearances. He has played for the Detroit Tigers from 2019 to 2023 and then moved to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2024 before joining the Brewers for the current season.
As for Quintana, the 36-year-old has impressed with a 4-1 record and a 2.65 ERA over six starts with the Brewers prior to his stint on the injured list, which began three weeks ago. His last appearance was on May 9 in a 4-3 defeat against the Tampa Bay Rays.
