MUNICH — Defender Yann Aurel Bisseck of Inter Milan is set to miss Germany’s upcoming Nations League clashes following an injury sustained during the team’s Champions League final encounter with Paris Saint-Germain. Bisseck took to the field as a substitute in the 54th minute during Saturday’s match but was forced to exit in the 62nd minute due to an apparent injury to his right leg.

The German soccer federation (DFB) disclosed on Sunday that the injury comprises muscular issues at the back of Bisseck’s right thigh. This will prevent his participation in the Nations League semifinal against Portugal in Munich this coming Wednesday, as well as the final or third-place playoff against either Spain or France, set to take place four days afterward.

German national coach Julian Nagelsmann has reacted to Bisseck’s absence by calling up Thilo Kehrer, a defender currently playing at Monaco, to fill the vacant spot. Kehrer is expected to join the national team’s training camp in Herzogenaurach starting on Monday. The 28-year-old defender has accumulated 27 caps for Germany, although he hasn’t appeared for the national side since June 2023.

In a related development, Jonathan Burkardt of Mainz had to depart the team camp later on Sunday. This follows an incident during training that left him with a laceration to his heel, a wound that necessitated stitches and resulted in the player being advised to take a break. Hence, Burkardt will sit out both upcoming matches. He had been called up only recently to replace Angelo Stiller from Stuttgart, who also had to withdraw due to injury.

Despite not being fully fit, Angelo Stiller was notably influential in Stuttgart’s 4-2 triumph over Arminia Bielefeld in the German Cup final by contributing to three of the team’s four goals. Furthermore, Mainz midfielder Nadiem Amiri left the camp on Saturday with reported “adductor problems,” ruling him out of the impending games.
