MONTMELO, Spain — Aston Martin announced that Canadian driver Lance Stroll will not be participating in the Spanish Grand Prix this Sunday due to discomfort in his hand and wrist.
Since Stroll already completed the qualification process for the race, Aston Martin is unable to name a replacement for him. As a result, Fernando Alonso will be the sole competitor driving in the iconic emerald green car.
The team has not disclosed which of Stroll’s hands is affected. They mentioned that Stroll has been dealing with the pain for approximately six weeks. Medical experts believe this issue is linked to a medical procedure he underwent in 2023 after a cycling accident which resulted in multiple fractures and a broken toe.
Aston Martin revealed that Stroll will soon undergo another procedure aimed at addressing these complications, allowing him to focus on his recovery.
This season, Stroll has been crucial for the team, having accumulated all 14 of Aston Martin’s championship points. Meanwhile, Alonso has faced ongoing challenges throughout the season.
Stroll’s next opportunity to compete will be during his home race, the Canadian Grand Prix, scheduled to take place in two weeks.
