BATON ROUGE, La. — In a commanding display of skill and teamwork, Kade Anderson delivered an impressive performance, striking out 11 hitters over seven innings without conceding a single run, helping to propel LSU to a decisive 12-0 victory over Dallas Baptist on Saturday night. Chris Stanfield contributed significantly to the win, bringing in three runs. LSU, already a seven-time national champion in baseball, is now poised to advance to the super regionals, a feat they have achieved ten times since the format’s inception 26 years ago.
Dallas Baptist is set to face off against Little Rock in an elimination clash on Sunday. The team that emerges victorious in that face-off will be tasked with defeating LSU twice, once on Sunday and again on Monday, to move forward in the competition.
The Tigers took an early lead in the first inning thanks to Ethan Frey, whose two-run double set the pace for the game. In the second inning, Stanfield launched a solo home run, further increasing their lead. LSU capitalized on defensive errors by adding three unearned runs in the third inning.
Stanfield continued his contributions in the fifth inning with an RBI groundout. The sixth inning saw Luis Hernandez batting in a run with a single, while Steven Milam scored during a thrilling double steal alongside Hernandez.
In the eighth inning, Frey showcased his speed and situational awareness with a triple, ultimately scoring due to a fielding error committed by the opposing center fielder.
Micah Bucknam, starting for Dallas Baptist, endured a challenging game, allowing six runs—three of which were unearned—in just 2 2/3 innings. Anderson’s outstanding performance lifted his season record to an impressive 9-1.
