SAN DIEGO — In a thrilling encounter on Saturday night, San Diego FC secured a victory against Austin FC with a 2-0 scoreline, courtesy of second-half goals from Luca de la Torre and Milan Iloski. Goalkeeper CJ dos Santos maintained a solid defense, achieving his seventh clean sheet of their debut season.
It wasn’t until the hour mark that de la Torre managed to break the deadlock, netting his fourth goal for San Diego in what has been an impressive first season in the league. Hirving “Chucky” Lozano contributed significantly with his seventh assist, while Paddy McNair added his first assist during what was his sixteenth career appearance.
The match saw Iloski sealing the win with a late goal—the third of his season—in the second minute of stoppage time. Despite limited play, making ten appearances this season all from the bench, Iloski has made notable contributions after minimal playing time in the previous two seasons. Anders Dreyer was instrumental, securing his eighth assist during his inaugural season.
The reliable dos Santos was once again in top form, pulling off two critical saves during his seventeenth start. Before joining the expansion club, he had made single starts in the preceding two seasons for Inter Miami.
On the opposing side, Austin’s goalkeeper Brad Stuver faced significant challenges, managing to secure two saves, but unable to stem a winless streak that has now extended to eight, following a sequence of four consecutive draws.
San Diego’s recent strong form has been slightly dampened following their previous defeat to the Seattle Sounders, which ended their five-match unbeaten run. As the teams look ahead, Austin will take on the Colorado Rapids next Saturday, while San Diego’s league campaign continues with an away game at Minnesota United on June 14.
