CINCINNATI — On Saturday evening, D.C. United emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over FC Cincinnati, thanks to first-half goals by Gabriel Pirani and defender Connor Antley, supported by adept goalkeeping from Luis Barraza.

Pirani swiftly put D.C. United ahead by scoring in the 2nd minute, capitalizing on a precise free kick delivered by defender David Schnegg. This goal marked Pirani’s second of the season, while Schnegg earned his fourth assist during his inaugural full season in the league.

Cincinnati responded in the 15th minute to level the score, with Kévin Denkey finding the net for the 10th time within 16 appearances. The goal was set up by Evander Da Silva Ferreira, who recorded his sixth assist.

D.C. United quickly reclaimed the lead just four minutes later when Connor Antley netted his first career goal. With assists from Pirani, who gathered his third, and defender Aaron Herrera, it propelled United to a 2-1 advantage going into halftime. Antley’s match showcased his skill in his two seasons, having made nine starts in 13 appearances.

This win effectively ended D.C. United’s five-game winless streak, all while extending Cincinnati’s winless run to four games. During their previous games, D.C. United managed to score only a single goal.

Guarding the net, Barraza was critical, making three saves in his 10th starting appearance this season for D.C. United, whose record now stands at 4-7-6.

Cincinnati’s goalkeeper, Roman Celantano, also made three saves. The team’s record is now 9-5-3. Previously, Cincinnati secured a 1-0 victory over D.C. United back on April 12 in Washington.

Looking ahead, D.C. United will host the Chicago Fire on Saturday, while Cincinnati takes a brief pause before traveling to face the New England Revolution on June 14.
