NEW YORK — Amidst a bustling game between the New York Mets and Colorado Rockies on Saturday, Juan Soto shattered a 17-game dry spell with a significant home run, driving the ball an impressive 404 feet into left-centerfield. This homer contributed to the Mets’ commanding 8-2 triumph over the Rockies.

Soto’s spectacular hit marked his first home run since May 9, with the ball racing off his bat at a striking 109.5 mph. Defying the elements, it soared against a 14 mph headwind blowing towards right field.

“He delivered an exceptional swing,” admired Mets manager Carlos Mendoza. “For him to achieve that under challenging wind conditions is truly remarkable.” Soto, reflecting on his achievement, confidently said, “When you hit it at 110 mph, you know it’s gone.”

The power drought was notable for Soto, marking the fourth longest in his esteemed eight-year career. Having signed a landmark $765 million, 15-year contract in December, Soto’s recent performance had dipped slightly, hitting just .143 with two extra-base hits over the preceding 17 games. However, the fans at Citi Field have consistently shown their support. Following his homer, Soto acknowledged the crowd’s enthusiastic cheers, further fueled by the chants of “JUAN SO-TO” from fans along the right-field seats, culminating in Soto raising his arms in appreciation.

“It’s uplifting to feel that kind of support from the fans,” Soto remarked.

The home run came immediately after Brandon Nimmo’s two-run homer to right field, making it a back-to-back demolition act.

“Francisco (Lindor) and I were busy with our post-home run photo in the dugout,” Nimmo recounted about their celebratory ritual. “Then we caught the unmistakable sound of the bat and a crescendo of cheers. Watching Soto send the ball the opposite way is when he’s truly at his peak.”

Nimmo added, “With the temperatures rising and us moving into June, the field conditions will balance out. Today’s game could just be the beginning. Having back-to-back hits with him was fantastic.”
