PHILADELPHIA – Rhys Hoskins delivered a stellar performance against his former teammates with two three-run home runs leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a dominant 17-7 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. Adding to the Brewers’ offensive explosion, Jackson Chourio contributed with a homer amidst his four-hit and five-RBI display.

Hoskins, revisiting his multi-homer capability from his Phillies days in 2022, brought his career total to 13 games with multiple home runs. Alongside him, Chourio shone with both a three-run home run and a two-run single, while Christian Yelich also matched Chourio’s offensive prowess with four hits as Milwaukee amassed 23 hits as a team.

Chad Patrick (3-4) secured the win for the Brewers with an efficient outing, allowing just two runs and five hits over six innings, marking Milwaukee’s sixth straight victory.

On the opposite side, Philadelphia’s starter, Jesus Luzardo (5-1), struggled significantly, enduring a rough outing that lasted only 3 1/3 innings. He surrendered 12 earned runs alongside 12 hits, including Hoskins’ two long balls. This difficult performance placed Luzardo among an unfortunate group of just 12 pitchers in MLB history who have yielded 12 earned runs in 3 1/3 innings or fewer, joining the ranks of Jordan Yamamoto from the Miami Marlins back in 2020.

Contributing to Philadelphia’s offense, Alec Bohm hit a solo homer, Brandon Marsh added a two-run shot, and Kyle Schwarber delivered with three hits, including an RBI double. Nevertheless, their efforts were insufficient as the Phillies faced their third consecutive loss.

An eventful game saw Phillies’ manager Rob Thomson ejected during the fourth inning after disputing a balk call made by third base umpire Derek Thomas. Following an extensive debate, he faced ejection by second base umpire Dan Iassogna.

The game’s critical play unfolded as Hoskins launched his initial homer from a 2-1 fastball delivered by Luzardo, establishing a 4-0 advantage for Milwaukee in the first inning after a mere 13 pitches. Luzardo, who previously had not allowed more than three runs per game in his 11 starts for Philadelphia, surprisingly conceded four runs in his initial four batters faced against Milwaukee.

Looking ahead, the series slates Brewers’ left-hander Jose Quintana (4-1, 2.65 ERA) to pitch against Phillies’ left-hander Ranger Suarez (4-0, 2.97) in the Sunday series finale.
