LOS ANGELES – Mookie Betts, the shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has suffered a fracture in his fourth left toe, causing him to sit out his second consecutive game on Saturday.

“The past couple of days, he’s struggled even to wear a shoe, which is why he’s not playing,” explained Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts. “However, I don’t anticipate he will need a stint on the injured list. For now, it’s more of a day-to-day issue.”

According to Roberts, Betts sustained the injury midweek following the team’s return from a road trip.

“He hurt himself during the night at home in his bedroom,” Roberts stated. “It was dark, and he accidentally hit something.”

In Betts’ absence, rookie Hyeseong Kim took on the role of shortstop for the Saturday game against the New York Yankees.

Previously, Betts missed the Dodgers’ opening series of the season in Japan due to an illness that led to weight loss as he struggled to keep food down.
