BALTIMORE — On Saturday, the Baltimore Orioles announced that Ryan Mountcastle has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain. This news came a day after the first baseman exited a game in the eighth inning, due to discomfort, during the Orioles’ 2-1 triumph over the Chicago White Sox.
Interim manager Tony Mansolino revealed that Mountcastle had undergone an MRI, expressing optimism regarding the injury, “Just hopeful that it’s not too bad,” Mansolino stated. Currently, Mountcastle boasts a .246 batting average with two home runs and 15 RBIs this season.
Mountcastle is the second player from the Orioles to be sidelined with a similar injury after Cedric Mullins was added to the injured list the previous day with a hamstring strain of his own. With this addition, Baltimore now has five players, from their opening day lineup, unable to play due to injuries. This list includes Cedric Mullins as well as outfielders Colton Cowser and Tyler O’Neill, along with infielder Jordan Westburg.
Cowser and Westburg are currently rehabilitating and are assigned to Triple-A Norfolk for their recovery. In response to Mountcastle’s absence, the team called up infielder Coby Mayo from Norfolk. Mayo, who was named in Baltimore’s lineup as the designated hitter on Saturday, may also fill in at first base.
Moreover, the Orioles took additional roster actions by selecting the contract of outfielder Jordyn Adams from Norfolk. To make room, they designated catcher Chadwick Tromp for assignment.
