In Bandon, Oregon, local authorities have announced that a zoo owner is in custody facing drug-related charges following a police operation at the zoo. This raid, which took place earlier this month, resulted in the confiscation of illegal substances and the relocation of numerous animals from the facility.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office reported that Brian Tenney was taken into custody on Tuesday and is facing charges for possession, manufacturing, and attempted distribution of methamphetamine. Although he was released on the same day of his arrest, the district attorney’s office is currently reviewing the case, according to a staff member from the Coos County Jail on Wednesday morning.

Authorities executed multiple search warrants at the West Coast Game Park Safari, situated near the coastal town of Bandon in southern Oregon, on May 15. This operation was driven by an ongoing investigation into the zoo, which included concerns about the animals’ living conditions, as stated by the Oregon State Police.

During the raid, law enforcement officers seized 80 grams of methamphetamine, 44 firearms, approximately 8 grams of cocaine, and over $1.6 million in various forms of currency, including cash, cashier’s checks, bonds, and certificates.

Animal health and welfare were significant focuses during the raid. Veterinarians and personnel from the Oregon Humane Society along with the state’s Departments of Wildlife and Agriculture were involved in examining the well-being, dietary provisions, water sources, cleanliness, and the quality of the enclosures housing the animals.

As a result of these assessments, a total of 310 animals were transferred to animal sanctuaries and rescue facilities. Unfortunately, after medical evaluations, a camel, a chicken, and a kinkajou were put to sleep due to health issues.

The investigation into these matters continues as authorities gather more information and insights.
