AUBURN, Ala. — In a thrilling match at the Auburn Regional, Carson Myers played a crucial role leading his team to victory with a standout performance on Friday. Myers struck out nine batters over six innings while Bub Terrell contributed significantly to the scoreboard with three RBIs. This stellar play helped propel No. 4 national seed Auburn to a 9-5 win over Central Connecticut State, in what was a historic game attended by 7,367 fans, marking the largest crowd ever at Plainsman Park.

A pivotal moment arrived in the third inning, initiated by Lucas Steele’s homer that triggered a four-run burst, enabling Auburn to take a significant 8-4 lead. The action began in the first inning when Steele, Eric Snow, and Terrell hit consecutive singles with bases loaded, the last of which scored two runs, giving Auburn an early 4-0 lead.

Central Connecticut State (31-16) encountered challenges in capitalizing on early opportunities, leaving three runners stranded in the first inning. They again threatened in the second by loading the bases with a single and consecutive walks before Matt Falk drove in two runs with a base hit. At that point, Auburn turned to Myers, who stepped in for starting pitcher Cam Tilley. Although Myers allowed a run-scoring single to Colby Brouillette, he prevented further damage by forcing Bo Yaworski to line out, thereby preserving a slim 4-3 lead for Auburn.

Throughout his time on the mound, Myers (3-2) was resilient, surrendering one run from six hits. Meanwhile, Brady Short’s RBI single in the third inning allowed Central Connecticut State to even the score briefly at 4-4.

Moving forward, with Auburn improving its record to 39-18, they are set to face Stetson, while Central Connecticut will take on N.C. State in a game where the losing team will be eliminated on Saturday.
