NEW YORK – In a compelling display of skill and athleticism, Francisco Lindor powered the New York Mets to a 4-2 win over the struggling Colorado Rockies on Friday night. Demonstrating his prowess, Lindor hit home runs on both sides of the plate and executed an impressive leap at shortstop to prevent the Rockies from gaining critical runs.

The Mets, victorious in five of their last six games, saw contributions from Juan Soto, who snapped an 0-for-17 slump with a crucial RBI double, and Starling Marte, who homered against Colorado’s Kyle Freeland. Back on the mound, Mets pitcher Huascar Brazobán stepped in for David Peterson during the sixth inning with opposition runners in scoring positions. Successfully dismissing pinch-hitter Mickey Moniak, Brazobán maintained a tight 3-1 edge for the Mets.

Sam Hilliard, in his initial major league at-bat of the season, closed in with a pinch-hit homer, narrowing the Mets’ lead to 3-2 during the seventh inning. However, Lindor widened the gap with another home run from his left-hand stance to begin the eighth inning, marking his 21st career multihomer game, and the second of this season. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this was the seventh occurrence where Lindor hit from both sides in a single game, five of which have been for the Mets. Adding to his night’s stats, Lindor registered a single in the third inning and scored following Soto’s double.

Reed Garrett efficiently secured the eighth inning with two strikeouts, while Edwin Díaz closed the ninth with three consecutive strikeouts, maintaining a flawless 12 save records. Notably, Díaz has not yielded a hit since May 5.

The struggling Colorado Rockies faced their sixth consecutive loss with an RBI double from Ryan McMahon, pushing them to a poor 9-48 season record, which is described as the worst in modern baseball history (since 1901) upon 57 games.

In upcoming manager decisions, Mets skipper Carlos Mendoza announced that pitcher Paul Blackburn, sidelined with right knee inflammation, is expected to return off the injured list to participate in a series at Dodger Stadium.

A pivotal moment in the game occurred when Lindor ended a threatening third inning for the Rockies by catching a line drive from Thairo Estrada with bases loaded. Impressively, Lindor has launched 25 lead-off homers in his career, with five happening this season, contributing to the Mets’ streak of 25 sequential wins when he scores since July 2024, the longest in team history. Meanwhile, Freeland is without a win in 15 starts since September 2024 and has received scant run support in 12 outings this year.

Next on the schedule, Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (5-3, 1.46 ERA) is set to pitch in the series’ second game on Saturday against Antonio Senzatela of the Rockies (1-9, 6.50), who currently leads the major leagues in losses.
