PHILADELPHIA — The Milwaukee Brewers continued their winning streak, taking their fifth consecutive victory with a commanding 6-2 triumph over the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies, who currently hold the National League lead, struggled offensively, managing only four hits during the matchup on Friday night.

Christian Yelich shone brightly for Milwaukee, delivering two home runs and driving in four runs. His most impactful hit came in the fifth inning when he launched a three-run homer off the first pitch from Philadelphia reliever Tanner Banks, significantly stretching the Brewers’ lead. Later in the game, Yelich sent a solo shot soaring into the second deck at Citizens Bank Park in the ninth inning, marking his twelfth home run of the season. This performance marked Yelich’s twelfth career multi-homer game and his second such game of the season. Notably, his home run off Banks represented his first against a left-handed pitcher this year, which was an impressive feat given his previous struggle with a .147 average against lefties.

Starting for the Brewers, D.L. Hall delivered an impressive three no-hit innings, setting the stage for Quinn Priester, who pitched six innings in relief. Priester allowed two runs on four hits, securing the win and improving his record to 2-2. Key contributions came from other Brewers, with Williams Contreras and Sal Frelick adding RBIs to the tally, while Jackson Chourio had a productive night with two hits and two runs. Additionally, the team showcased their speed by successfully stealing five bases.

Philadelphia’s Nick Castellanos provided a brief spark for his team with a solo home run. However, the Phillies faced back-to-back defeats for the first time since late April, a sign of their recent struggles. Taijuan Walker, the Phillies’ starter, had a challenging outing, allowing four runs over four innings. Manager Rob Thomson had indicated that this would be Walker’s final appearance as a starter before transitioning back to the bullpen.

A pivotal moment occurred in the bottom of the fourth inning when the Phillies had a chance to tie with a runner in scoring position and no outs. Priester responded by inducing three groundball outs, effectively shutting down the threat and preserving Milwaukee’s lead going into the inning where Yelich extended the advantage with his three-run homer.

For Philadelphia, Kyle Schwarber maintained his impressive streak of reaching base safely in 55 of the Phillies’ 57 games this season. He contributed with a pair of doubles and an RBI during the game.

Looking ahead, Milwaukee will send right-hander Chad Patrick to the mound, who holds a 2-4 record with a 2.97 ERA. They will face off against Philadelphia’s undefeated left-hander Jesus Luzardo, who boasts a 5-0 record and a 2.15 ERA, in their next matchup slated for Saturday.
