MANHATTAN, Kan. — Matthew Driscoll, North Florida’s long-standing coach, announced his departure after a 16-year tenure to join Jerome Tang’s team at Kansas State as the associate head coach. Driscoll’s bond with Tang goes back more than twenty years, having collaborated for six seasons on Scott Drew’s coaching staff at Baylor. In 2009, Driscoll took on the head coach role at North Florida, guiding the Ospreys to three Atlantic Sun regular-season championships, an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2015, and a stint in the NIT the following year. Last season, his team ended with a 15-17 record.

Jerome Tang praised his new associate head coach, stating, “Coach Driscoll is a proven program builder and an exceptional teacher of the game. His ability to develop players and implement high-level offensive systems is second to none.”

Driscoll’s coaching journey also includes head coach roles at the high school level and at La Roche, a Division III institution in Pennsylvania. He’s also served as an assistant at Slippery Rock, Wyoming, Clemson, and Valparaiso.

Addressing his decision to step down from a head coach position, Driscoll explained, “I know some will wonder why I would leave being a head coach to become an assistant coach, but this was a no-brainer in every aspect for us. We all know that work brings profit and if you have studied Coach Tang and his program, that’s what they do. My responsibility will be to continue to nurture, encourage, and expound upon this foundation.”
