FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Aljaz Ivacic showcased his defensive skills by securing his sixth clean sheet of the season for the New England Revolution as they battled to a 0-0 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night.
New England (5-4-3) have maintained an unbeaten streak since their last defeat, a 1-0 loss to Cincinnati on April 5. Their previous game, however, ended a four-game winning run achieved through back-to-back shutouts when they settled for a high-scoring 3-3 draw against Orlando.
In the encounter against New England, San Jose had to make a key halftime substitution, bringing on Earl Edwards Jr. to replace Daniel De Sousa Britto. Edwards Jr., who had 15 starts for the Revolution between 2021 and 2024, concluded the match with two saves under his belt.
San Jose was also without two of their standout players: Cristian Arango and Cristian Espinoza. Arango, currently the second-highest goal-scorer in the league with nine goals, exited early in their 3-3 matchup with Miami due to a lower leg issue. On the other hand, Espinoza’s absence disrupted his impressive streak of playing 122 consecutive matches, marking the third-longest run in the league’s history.
The Earthquakes (5-6-3) have been on a fine run themselves, remaining unbeaten in four consecutive matches. They have compiled five victories, a defeat, and two draws since succumbing to a narrow 1-0 loss to Charlotte on March 15.
Meanwhile, New England faced an injury setback with Leo Campana leaving the field in the 32nd minute due to a leg problem. He was replaced by Luis Diaz Espinoza. Campana had previously been sidelined by a hamstring issue that arose in the early moments of their 2-0 defeat to Philadelphia on March 8, causing him to miss three games.
Defensively, the Revolution have been impressive, conceding only ten goals this season, which ties them with Vancouver for the least number in the league. This match against San Jose marked the teams’ first clash since New England triumphed 3-1 over the Earthquakes on May 11, 2019.
