In a significant move to promote mixed martial arts (MMA) in the Oceania region, the Professional Fighters League (PFL) has initiated a new international division in Australia and New Zealand. This expansion, known as PFL Pacific, was officially announced in Sydney, marking the organizationโs efforts to permeate the southern hemisphere.
โWe have long prioritized bringing the Professional Fighters League to Australia and the wider Pacific region,โ stated Peter Murray, PFLโs chief executive. Murray mentioned that the introduction of PFL Pacific lays down a foundation for sustained development and growth. Their goal is to produce more Australian champions than any other league within the coming three years.
To enhance its outreach, the PFL has secured a broadcasting partnership with Australiaโs streaming platform Stan and Nine Network. This agreement includes various viewing options ranging from subscription services to pay-per-view and even free-to-air TV, ensuring wide accessibility for audiences.
The inaugural PFL Pacific tournament is scheduled for next year. This competition will unfold over four live events and will feature regional fighters in a single-elimination format, adhering to the leagueโs signature โwin and advanceโ system.
The announcement about PFL Pacific follows shortly after news broke about the postponing of former French and Manchester United soccer player Patrice Evraโs PFL Europe debut. Evra, now 43, retired from professional soccer in 2019 and has channelled his focus into combat sports, training alongside MMA notable Cรฉdric Doumbรฉ.
