MEXICO CITY — In an intense finale, Pachuca managed to secure their maiden Liga MX Femenil Apertura championship, triumphing over Club América with a 3-2 aggregate victory. Despite a 2-0 defeat in the second leg of the final held on Monday, Pachuca’s formidable lead from the initial match was enough to claim the title.
Although América’s Irene Guerrero, a midfielder representing Spain’s national squad, paired with standout striker Scarlett Camberos to score for their team, their efforts could not offset the 3-0 defeat they faced in the first leg of this compelling series. This title win marks a significant milestone for Pachuca, who had previously stumbled in three finals, including the Apertura 2017, Clausura 2022, and 2023 tournaments.
Esthefanny Barreras, Pachuca’s goalkeeper, who earned the title of Player of the Match, reflected on the key to their success, saying, “Winning at home was crucial. We didn’t approach this match just intending to defend our lead, but Club América’s strong play really challenged us.” She remarked on the historical significance and joy of securing their first championship.
Since the women’s professional league’s inception in Mexico in 2017, it has gradually gained traction, capturing the hearts of fans across the nation. Meanwhile, América was in pursuit of their third championship title but faced setbacks, marking their fourth loss in six final appearances.
