NEW YORK — In a narrow victory, CF Montreal triumphed over New York City FC with a score of 1-0 on Saturday, marking Montreal’s inaugural win in this season’s MLS competition.

Jonathan Sirois of Montreal delivered an impeccable performance, ensuring a clean sheet with two key saves. On the opposite end, NYCFC’s Matt Freese worked hard, making seven crucial saves.

The turning point of the match came just moments into the second half when Prince Owusu managed to break the deadlock. He deftly netted a challenging left-footed shot from the right side of the box, sending the ball into the top left corner. The goal was skillfully set up by Victor Loturi.

Despite NYCFC controlling 60.5% of the game’s possession, they struggled in the attack, being outshot 22-9 in total attempts, with an 8-2 discrepancy on shots on target.

This victory was significant for Montreal as it snapped their unfortunate 11-game winless stretch.

New York City FC went into the game missing key players, including Malachi Jones, Kevin O’Toole, Keaton Parks, and Birk Risa.

Prior to this match, NYCFC held a decent record, having secured three wins in their last four MLS outings.

Moving forward, Montreal, now holding a 1-8-3 record with six points, is set to face Columbus on home ground this Wednesday, while NYCFC, with a 5-5-2 record and 17 points, prepares for an away match against DC United.
