DETROIT — Texas Rangers emerged victorious with a commanding 10-3 win against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night, snapping the Tigers’ five-game winning streak.
The energetic performance was highlighted by Corey Seager, who returned from a brief two-game absence due to a hamstring issue, and delivered two solo home runs as well as an RBI double. This marked Seager’s 19th career multi-homer game and his second of the season. Contributing further, Joc Pederson launched a two-run homer, while Josh Smith and Evan Carter each hit solo home runs. Adolis Garcia also contributed two RBIs, helping the Rangers end their previous three-game losing streak.
Jacob deGrom (3-1) orchestrated a sterling performance from the mound, recording a season-high ten strikeouts in a little over five innings. Impressively, deGrom struck out six consecutive batters throughout the first and second innings. Though he did allow two runs and five hits, his pitching prowess was crucial to the team’s success.
The Tigers saw brief highlights with homers from Kerry Carpenter and Riley Greene. Unfortunately, Detroit’s starter Jack Flaherty (1-5) struggled, conceding five runs derived entirely from home runs across three innings. This outing was particularly challenging for Flaherty, as he surrendered the highest number of homers in his 161 career starts and faced a personal streak of five consecutive losses.
Setting the tone early in the game, Smith and Seager both launched solo home runs in the first inning off Flaherty’s pitches, with Smith capitalizing on a 2-2 slider and Seager scoring off a 3-1 fastball. Prior to this matchup, the Rangers had only managed to secure a single run over their last two games, amplifying the significance of these early runs.
From a statistical perspective, the game marked a notable achievement for deGrom, as it was the first time since April 23, 2023, that he achieved double digits in strikeouts—his previous high being 11 strikeouts against Oakland.
Looking ahead, the Rangers hope to maintain their momentum as right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (3-2, 2.03 ERA) is poised to face off against Detroit’s right-hander Reese Olson (4-2, 3.03 ERA) in the series finale scheduled for Sunday.
