Austin Peay’s William Hardrick passes away at 22

    CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Austin Peay University has announced the passing of William Hardrick, a transfer defensive back who previously played for Mississippi State and Miami (Ohio). According to the university’s statement on Wednesday, the 22-year-old Hardrick passed away on Tuesday, although they did not disclose the cause or location of his death.

    “Austin Peay coach Jeff Faris shared that Hardrick was an exemplary individual whose loss has deeply saddened the team. ‘He was someone who uplifted everyone around him and left a significant mark both on and off the field,’ said Faris. ‘We extend our heartfelt prayers to the Hardrick family as we mourn this devastating loss together,’ he added.

    Born in Adamsville, Alabama, Hardrick was known for his talent as both a receiver and defensive back during his high school years. He began his college football journey at Mississippi State, where he played in a game as a freshman in 2021. Hardrick later transferred to Miami in 2023.

    During his tenure with the Miami RedHawks, Hardrick participated in 18 games over two seasons. In those games, he achieved 32 solo or assisted tackles, forced a fumble, and successfully broke up five passes.
