WOLFSBURG, Germany — Wolfsburg has decided to part ways with Ralph Hasenhüttl as head coach just two games before the Bundesliga season concludes, ending his role after an eight-match streak without a victory.
The club, sponsored by Volkswagen, announced late on Sunday that Hasenhüttl has been “relieved of his duties as Wolves head coach with immediate effect.” This decision also includes the departure of assistant coaches Craig Fleming and Patrick Hasenhüttl, among others.
“We have made this decision due to the results and developments we have observed over recent months,” stated Wolfsburg CEO Peter Christiansen, explaining the club’s need for change.
Hasenhüttl managed his last game for Wolfsburg during their 4-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, a result that likely influenced the club’s decision.
In response to these changes, Daniel Bauer, formerly responsible for Wolfsburg’s Under-19 team, has been appointed to lead the team for the final two matches of the season against Hoffenheim and Borussia Mönchengladbach. At 42 years old, Bauer was set to conduct his first training session on Monday, stepping into his new role with immediate effect.
