TORONTO — Star player for the Cleveland Guardians, José Ramírez, resumed action on Sunday in the matchup against the Blue Jays. This return comes just two days after the third baseman exited the game in the third inning due to a mild sprain in his right ankle.
Ramírez, who is a six-time All-Star, sustained the injury as he stumbled and fell while crossing first base on an infield single. The mishap occurred after a throw from Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt struck him in the back, leading to his untimely fall.
In Sunday’s lineup, Ramírez was slotted to bat third against Bowden Francis, a right-handed pitcher. During Saturday’s game, which saw Cleveland claim a 5-3 victory over Toronto, Ramírez was absent from the field. Before his injury on Friday, he impressively went 2 for 2, advancing his batting average to .274. Over 31 games this season, Ramírez has notched up five home runs and 15 RBIs.
Just last Thursday, in a thrilling 4-3 win over Minnesota, Ramírez hit a significant milestone by becoming the first primary third baseman to amass 250 home runs and 250 stolen bases in his career.
