TORONTO — The New England Revolution secured a decisive victory over Toronto FC with a 2-0 scoreline on Saturday, marking their fourth consecutive win. Carles Gil and Leo Campana each found the back of the net, contributing to the Revolution’s triumphant streak.
Aljaz Ivacic, the Revolution’s goalkeeper, played a crucial role in maintaining their clean sheet by successfully blocking two shots. The 31-year-old has managed to keep opponents from scoring in his last 385 minutes on the field. His impressive streak of shutouts reaches back to April 5th, when he conceded a goal to Sergio Santos in a narrow 1-0 defeat against Cincinnati.
With a current record of 5-4-1, New England has turned a corner after an early season stumbling start of 0-3-1. The team has secured victories in five of their last six matches during which Gil has scored all five of his season goals.
The Revolution’s initial breakthrough came just 11 minutes into the game, thanks to Gil’s quick reaction to a deflection in the penalty area. A strategic delivery from Ilay Feingold on the right side took a slight redirection off defender Nicksoen Gomis’ head, presenting Gil with an opportunity he didn’t waste as he fired the ball into the net.
Campana extended the Revolution’s lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute during a swift counter-attack. Receiving a well-timed pass from Alhassan Yusuf, Campana dashed past the Toronto defense, launching a precise shot from the right-center that goalkeeper Sean Johnson couldn’t keep out as it bounced off his glove and then the post before crossing the line.
Despite Sean Johnson’s effort, who recorded four saves throughout the match, Toronto struggled offensively. Currently sitting at 1-6-4 this season, they have faced difficulty in scoring, failing to find the back of the net in their last two matches and managing only two goals in their past six outings.
