BALTIMORE — Before their Saturday evening matchup against the Kansas City Royals, the Baltimore Orioles made a roster adjustment, placing third baseman Ramón Urías on the injured list due to a hamstring strain. The team elevated their top prospect, Coby Mayo, from Triple-A Norfolk to fill the void.

Manager Brandon Hyde remains optimistic about Urías’s condition, suggesting his time away from the diamond may be brief. “It appears to be a minor hamstring strain,” Hyde explained, adding, “He’ll need to take a few days off to recover.” Urías’s injury was retroactively applied to Thursday, placing him on the 10-day injured list.

In Saturday’s game, Mayo stepped in as a pinch-hitter but found little success at the plate, going 0-for-2 in the Orioles’ 4-0 defeat against the Royals.

Urías has been a key player for Baltimore despite the team’s sluggish start this season, boasting a .292 batting average with a couple of home runs. His setback adds to a growing list of Orioles on the injured list, which already includes outfielders Colton Cowser and Tyler O’Neill, infielder Jordan Westburg, and several pitchers vital to the team’s success.

Baseball enthusiasts may recognize Mayo, who is currently ranked as baseball’s 12th best prospect by MLB Pipeline. Last year, he had a challenging major league debut with Baltimore, where he recorded four hits in 41 at-bats. This season, Mayo has posted a .252 average, with six home runs and 22 RBIs across 28 games for the Norfolk squad.
